Guess Paper for BA Code 1423 (Compulsory English-I) Exams
After going through past papers from 2020 onward, three clusters of questions keep returning. If your preparation time is short, spend it here first.
Everyday functional English. The paper regularly puts you inside a situation — a shop, a doctor’s clinic, a job interview, a bus stop — and asks you to build a short set of polite questions and natural replies. This mirrors the assignment tasks almost word for word, so your solved assignments double as exam practice. Learn to soften requests (“Could you possibly…”, “Would you mind…”) rather than writing blunt imperatives.
Grammar under pressure. Expect sentence-level correction work. The repeat offenders are subject–verb agreement, articles (a/an/the), prepositions after common verbs, and the shift between simple present, present continuous and present perfect. Reported speech and passive voice also show up, usually framed as “change the following sentences”. Do not memorise rules in isolation — practise on twenty sentences a day and the pattern becomes automatic.
Writing tasks with a word limit. Informal letters, formal applications, single paragraphs and short essays of roughly 250–350 words. Recent topics have leaned toward technology and society, environmental change, and education. Prepare a flexible three-part skeleton (opening position, two supporting points with examples, closing line) and you can adapt it to almost any prompt.
